Handling of the AI plane resources MODELS.RES

File 1 to 249 are bitmap textures used by the AI planes. The bitmaps may not exceed 256x256 using 256 colors defined by the palette located in file 639, the last file inside MODELS.RES. From file 250 to 538 there are 288 3D models stored in .bin format. A models can use from 1 or up to 4 3D models in different resolutions and with gear up and down. Small planes with fixed gears will need just 1 model. Large model as the Boeing 747 will use 4 models. After the 3D models there are 80 files one for each AI plane definition.
There are enough 3D models for the 80 AI planes. If each takes 4 models then we will run out models after 72 definitions but there are many planes using just 3, 2 or even 1 3D model so 288 will be enough.
The model selection is done by entering the Resource_ID for the model with gear down and a bit deeper the Resource_ID of the model with gear up. For more models you must use the flags 20, 40 ... and the models must directly follow the Resource_ID of the gear down model, mostly built in low polygon count for a better frame rate then you will see this reduced models just as large dots inside the game



Next is a text section for 18 preselected AI plane. This text is used in the aircraft selection screen of the game.
The number of 18 is hard coded and more files of lenght 7 bytes will not be accepted by FU3.



To modify the text of title or description just select the plane by the combo box and modify the text by delete, insert or overwrite the current text. Repeat for each plane you want to apply changes and don't move to another file in the tree-view or you loose the change you did, so when finished then save the modification for all planes at once. This will take some time.



The 18 files at 7 bytes will define which model is used for the AI description screen.
The only usable entry here is the Resource_ID of the 20 byte model pointer you want see there.
